Marc Carlos

Marc Carlos is a partner and co-founder of Bardsley and Carlos LLP. Mr. Carlos has been practicing criminal law since 1987. He has been a member of both the Los Angeles and the San Diego County Public Defender’s office where he was a senior trial deputy focusing primarily on serious felony trials. Mr. Carlos has tried over 200 jury trials and represented thousands of clients in criminal matters. He has tried a variety of complex criminal matters ranging from fraud to murder, including death penalty cases.

Mr. Carlos has represented clients in federal cases throughout the United States as well as California Courts. In addition, Mr. Carlos has represented individuals before the United States 9th Circuit Court of Appeals and the California 4th District Court of Appeals.

Mr. Carlos has handled a large number of high profile cases including two trials broadcast nationally on COURT TV. His extensive client list includes Professional Athletes, Elected and Public Officials, Law Enforcement Officers, and National and International Corporations. Mr. Carlos is also a frequent contributor as an expert legal analyst for MSNBC, COURT TV, FOX NEWS, PBS and numerous broadcast news and radio stations. Mr. Carlos has been interviewed regarding criminal expertise and his cases on the TODAY SHOW, DATELINE NBC, and SIXTY MINUTES. One of his murder cases has been the subject of a nationally syndicated documentary, What Ever Happened To Baby Jasmine? Two other of his murder cases have been made the subjects of a published books; Living Between Danger and Love: The Limits of Choice by Dr. Kathleen Jones (Rutgers University Press, 2000) and No Good Deed (Berkeley Publishing Group, 2006) by Tom Basinksi.

Mr. Carlos has been a featured MCLE lecturer in homicide defense as well as a trial skills instructor and trainer at the San Diego County Public Defender’s Office and the California Public Defender’s Association. Mr. Carlos has also lectured on diminished actuality and other psychological defenses as well as shaken baby syndrome. His current practice includes federal litigation. Mr. Carlos is licensed to practice in all the courts of the State of California, the Courts of Appeal, the California Supreme Court, including the Central and Southern District of the United States District Court. Mr. Carlos is also fluent in Spanish.

Marc Carlos has been rated “AV ®,” the highest possible rating by Martindale-Hubbell in determining an attorney’s legal ability, expertise, experience, integrity and overall professional excellence. This rating represents the highest level of criminal trial practice and status in the legal community.

Mr. Carlos is also retained by attorneys as an expert witness in criminal defense matters and has testified as an expert in the United States District Court.

Francis Bardsley

Francis Bardlsey has been an influential and well respected criminal trial attorney for over thirty years. After admission to the California State Bar in 1970, “Frank” Bardsley became a highly regarded attorney with the Los Angeles County Public Defender’s Office. He established a reputation for aggressive trial litigation by taking fifteen capital cases through jury trial. This extraordinary number of death penalty cases was made even more remarkable in that none of his clients were ever sentenced to death.

Mr. Bardsley was heavily recruited and selected from a nationwide field of candidates to establish and run the San Diego County Public Defender’s Office. While in command, Mr. Bardsley established the office’s outstanding reputation for aggressive criminal advocacy. As a personal mentor and role model to hundreds of criminal defense attorneys, Mr. Bardsley remains one of the most highly recognizable and respected trial attorneys in the state.

Mr. Bardsley has been in successful private practice with the firm of Bardsley & Carlos since 1997 and specializes in serious felony criminal matters as well as white collar litigation. Mr. Bardsley is also retained and consults as an expert in criminal defense matters for civil
cases. Mr. Bardsley was retained as an expert in the Rampart Division scandal in Los Angeles and is also consulted by major news networks and periodicals for expert opinions.

Amanda Luman

The Law Office of Amanda Luman provides invaluable Of Counsel services to Bardsley & Carlos, LLP. Ms. Luman has experience in a wide range of complex criminal and civil legal issues. She has litigated issues related to shareholder disputes, fraud, real estate transactions, and government claims. Ms. Luman also has experience as the attorney for a company contracted with the Department of Defense and as retained counsel for a multimillion-dollar internet marketing, advertising, and e-commerce company. In addition, Ms. Luman has a comprehensive misdemeanor practice in which she has successfully represented clients in numerous courts, including pro hac vice in Arizona. Ms. Luman is licensed to practice law in the State of California and in Federal Court. In her spare time, Ms. Luman has provided pro bono services through the California Innocence Project and the San Diego Volunteer Lawyer Program.
